What is KDM Biological Age?

The Klemera-Doubal Method (KDM) is a biological age algorithm developed by Klemera and Doubal in 2006. Unlike PhenoAge, which uses a mortality-based model, KDM employs a weighted regression approach that estimates the age your body most closely resembles based on multiple biomarkers simultaneously.

KDM was validated on NHANES III data and uses 10 biomarkers including metabolic, inflammatory, glycemic, and cardiovascular markers. It is considered one of the most statistically robust methods for estimating biological age from clinical data.

How KDM Differs from PhenoAge

PhenoAge predicts mortality risk using a Gompertz model, then converts that risk to a biological age. KDM instead finds the age that best fits your biomarker values through weighted regression. They complement each other — try both for a fuller picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is KDM biological age?

KDM (Klemera-Doubal Method) biological age is an estimate of how old your body "acts" based on 10 biomarkers. It uses a weighted regression approach published in 2006 and validated in large population studies like NHANES.

How accurate is this calculator?

This calculator implements the published KDM algorithm with coefficients derived from NHANES III training data, consistent with the BioAge R package. The results match validated reference implementations.

Where can I get these blood tests?

Most biomarkers are part of a standard Complete Blood Count (CBC) and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP). HbA1c and hs-CRP may require separate orders. You can request these from your doctor or use direct-to-consumer lab services.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser. Your blood test values are never sent to any server. Your data stays 100% private on your device.

How can I lower my KDM biological age?

Focus on the biomarkers with the highest impact in your results. Common strategies include regular exercise, managing blood pressure, controlling blood sugar, maintaining healthy cholesterol, and reducing inflammation.

What is KDM Acceleration?

KDM Acceleration is the difference between your KDM biological age and your chronological age. A positive value means your body appears older than expected; a negative value means you are biologically younger.
