How does the AI meal analyzer work?

Updated: 153 days ago

The AI meal analyzer lets you take a photo of your meal and have SuperAge automatically identify the foods and estimate calories and macros. It is available to Premium subscribers and supports up to 20 scans per day.

How it works

  1. Open the Nutrition section and tap the camera icon to start the Meal Analyzer.
  2. Take a photo of your meal. The image is securely sent to SuperAge’s AI service for analysis.
  3. The AI identifies individual food items and estimates the weight of each in grams.
  4. A results screen shows the detected foods with calorie and macro estimates. You can adjust the gram amounts before confirming.
  5. Tap Confirm to log the meal to your chosen time slot (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack).

The photo is used only for this analysis and is immediately discarded — it is never stored or shared.

Limits and requirements

  • Premium only. The feature is not available on the free plan.
  • 20 scans per day. The counter resets at the start of each local day.
  • Internet connection required. The analysis runs on a remote AI service, not on-device.
  • Results are estimates. The AI cannot see hidden ingredients like cooking oils or dressings. For the most accurate totals, add those manually using Quick Add or the food search.

Why results can be inaccurate

The AI works best with clearly visible, separated ingredients photographed in good light. Accuracy decreases for:

  • Mixed or layered dishes (stews, burritos, curries)
  • Foods partly hidden by cutlery or packaging
  • Dim or uneven lighting
  • Regional or home-cooked dishes not well represented in training data

If the AI misidentifies a food, tap the item in the results screen to correct it before confirming.
